WELCOME TO THE ATLANTA RADIO CLUB
UPCOMING EVENTSMonthly Meeting - A.I.- Wardell Castles N4YWH
Date: Thursday, May 2nd 2024 Time: 7:30 PM ET (2330Z) Location: Zoom -or- Meeting ID: 426 375 5765 Passcode: 791957 Speaker: Doug Grant, K1DG Speaker Location: Zoom Presentation: I ntroduction To Moonbounce (Aka EME: Earth-Moon-Earth) Description: The Atlanta Radio Club is excited to announce our upcoming May meeting, where we will delve into the fascinating realm of Moonbounce in ham radio. Moonbounce, also known as Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication, involves bouncing radio signals off the surface of the moon for long-distance communication. Our guest speaker for this event is Doug Grant, K1DG, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of ham radio and Moonbounce technology. Joe will guide us through the intricacies of Moonbounce communication, exploring its unique challenges and the exciting opportunities it presents for amateur radio enthusiasts. The receive footprint of signals bounced off the moon is a lot wider than that of conventional amateur radio satellites.due to the vast distance between the Earth and the moon. However, this also means that signal levels are considerably lower, requiring careful modulation and higher power output for successful communication. During our meeting, Joe will enlighten us on the technical aspects of Moonbounce, the equipment required, and share practical insights for those interested in venturing into this specialized area of ham radio. Join us for what promises to be another enriching ARC presentation, where we'll deepen our understanding of Moonbounce and its role in expanding the horizons of amateur radio communication. We look forward to seeing you there! ARC members requested this presentation as part of our ongoing series of requested presentations. Friday Lunches

Date: Thursday, April 4th 2024 Time: 7:30 PM ET (2330Z) Location: Zoom -or- Meeting ID: 426 375 5765 Passcode: 791957 Speaker: Wardell Castles, N4YWH Speaker Location: Zoom Presentation: Using chatGPT from OpenAI to play the role of a Ham Elmer Description: Recently, there has been extensive coverage of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media, highlighting both its potential benefits for society and its potential for harm. One notable AI tool that has garnered attention is ChatGPT, developed by the company OpenAI, which stands as one of the pioneering generative AI chatbots available to the public. OpenAI itself has been in the spotlight due to internal management issues. Our presentation will begin with an overview of fundamental AI concepts, followed by a demonstration showcasing how ChatGPT can serve as a helpful resource for hams as a substitute “elmer”. Feel free to ask questions. In technical audiences, it's common for some people to not fully grasp everything they hear but feel too hesitant to ask for clarification. If you're unsure about something and are hesitating to ask because you think it might be too trivial, please don't hesitate any longer—go ahead and ask. There will likely be others in the audience who will appreciate your question and benefit from the clarification it brings. ARC members requested this presentation as part of our ongoing series of requested presentations. CLUB BYLAWS

WORKED ALL GEORGIA AWARDThe Atlanta Radio Club, with the support of the Georgia Section of the ARRL, is proud to support the "Worked All Georgia" Award. The WAG Award is open to radio amateurs who can provide proof of two-way radio amateur radio contact with all 159 counties in the state of Georgia. This award is nice complement to the annual Georgia QSO Party, which in fact would be a good time to work on some of those hard-to-get counties. The award is embodied in a nice certificate.
