WELCOME TO THE ATLANTA RADIO CLUB
UPCOMING EVENTSMonthly Meeting - Fox Hunting - Joe Domaleski, KI4ASK
Date: Thursday, February 1st 2024 Time: 7:30 PM ET (2330Z) Location: Zoom -or- Meeting ID: 426 375 5765 Passcode: 791957 Speaker Location: Zoom Presentation: From the ARRL: Every weekend, in cities and towns all across the country, ham radio operators gather on hilltops for a very special kind of contest--the Fox Hunt. A small, low power transmitter is hidden and the rest of the crew tries to find it. Sound simple? It can be very challenging and a whole lot of fun. ----------------------------- Joe Domaleski, KI4ASK, will tell us about his experiences with Fox Hunting and how much fun it is for him and other hams he knows. He'll talk about different ways Fox Hunts are held. Some hunts are done on foot in fields and forests, some are done by hams in their cars driving around the city, and some are conducted (more) exotically. To be a successful hunter you have to know how to use your radio for direction finding, which is an art and science all by itself. The ARC will be holding a hands-on workshop later in the month where we'll build hand-held Yagi antennas -- out of tape measures. Yagis are the preferred antennas for amateur radio direction finding because they receive signals primarily from the direction in which the antenna is pointing. We are also making plans for our own Fox Hunt later in the year. Put what you learn in the meeting with the antenna you'll build and compete with your fellow club members for the bragging rights you'll get when you find the fox first. Friday Lunches

WORKED ALL GEORGIA AWARDThe Atlanta Radio Club, with the support of the Georgia Section of the ARRL, is proud to support the "Worked All Georgia" Award. The WAG Award is open to radio amateurs who can provide proof of two-way radio amateur radio contact with all 159 counties in the state of Georgia. This award is nice complement to the annual Georgia QSO Party, which in fact would be a good time to work on some of those hard-to-get counties. The award is embodied in a nice certificate.
