The place to be this weekend is at the huntsville hamfest
The annual Huntsville (Alabama) Hamfest, is this weekend - 8/17/8/18. It's the third largest hamfest in the U.S. and is only 3.5 hours from Atlanta. A good variety of forums will be held by expert presenters, some of whom are from the NASA center "down the street". Many national vendors, including GigaParts, DX Engineering and MFJ will have large booths there. Smaller vendors of new equipment and accessories will be there, too, as will the tailgaters who sell all kinds of things. It's all indoors so you can see everything in one air-conditioned place.
The Atlanta Radio Club will have a table there and a lot of hams from the Atlanta area normally attend. Come see us.

(August 13 @ 2 PM ET) (Written by Bill Perkins, KB4KFT, ARC President)
We are planning another park outing for Sunday, August 13th, at Brook Run Park Dunwoody, 2pm. No special reason other than getting out and playing radio for a bit. We will be in the pavilion on the hill above the Tree Top Quest Venue and parking. Contact John N3ACK 470-272-8940 if having problem finding us. If using what3words app select sandwhich.clan.deserved or GPS 33.9346940, -84.3015688 But there are a few things on the agenda for this outing. One, those folks who built antennas in July at this park can bring them and we will get them on the air. We did put analyzers on them on build-day but did not get them all on the air. While low SWR is good, nothing is better than talking to someone on the antenna. Here is your chance. Plus we can do some nice-to-have final touches to them too. Two, Len, KF4JBF, will have his "newly engineered" 6 meter moxon antenna out again. We got it up Field Day, it was working, but needed some physical changes, he has made those changes and is wanting to try it again. 6 meters is often hit or miss but with solar flares and what not 6 meters may be popping - you can never tell. Three, I got a JPC-12 antenna for my birthday (not a surprise as I bought it myself) and have set it up twice at home to experiment with. Anyone curious about this antenna (system) will be able to go hands on with it, it'll be hooked to a radio so we can figure out how well it works. I am curious how well it works too. Currently I can get it good on 15m, 20m, and 40m (the big three) and would like to see if 10m and 6m are do-able. But making contacts on one or more of the big three is the main goal. Four, anything else (reasonable) anyone wants to try is OK too. The goal is to have fun playing radio. Presentation: The Atlanta Radio Club is happy to announce that our speaker for the August 3 meeting will be Mickey Baker, N4MB. Mickey is Division Director of the ARRL Southeastern Division, which includes the Georgia section. As a division director he’s one of the 15 members of the ARRL Board of Directors. Mickey will be talking about the recently announced ARRL dues increase and membership benefit changes. One of these changes is that members will no longer receive a free printed copy of QST, QEX or NCJ. Needless to say the changes are controversial and have the ham radio social media buzzing. Mickey’s talk is very timely. We want to find out as much as we can from him so feel free to ask questions. Don’t be shy! CLUB BYLAWS

WORKED ALL GEORGIA AWARDThe Atlanta Radio Club, with the support of the Georgia Section of the ARRL, is proud to support the "Worked All Georgia" Award. The WAG Award is open to radio amateurs who can provide proof of two-way radio amateur radio contact with all 159 counties in the state of Georgia. This award is nice complement to the annual Georgia QSO Party, which in fact would be a good time to work on some of those hard-to-get counties. The award is embodied in a nice certificate.
