The Atlanta Radio Club is pleased to announce that, in response to requests from our members, our November program will be all about Fusion, C4FM and WIRES-X. The speaker will be Bill “Bucky" Buckwalter, W0SUN of the Parker Radio Association in Colorado and the Colorado Digital Multiprotocol Group. They maintain a network of digital and analog repeaters all around Colorado. Yaesu System Fusion/C4FM/WIRES-X is a digital mode that is gaining in popularity because, like DMR and D-STAR, it provides facilities for hams on one repeater to speak to hams on connected repeaters around the world. Why another digital mode, you might ask? It’s simple. Each digital mode (and analog mode) has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. A mode that fits the needs of one ham might not match another ham’s needs. The more choices, the better. The ARC does not currently operate a Fusion repeater but that might change in the future. In the mean time, you can use the Fusion (and other mode) repeaters that the other clubs operate all around Atlanta. I know that one of them is in Decatur and is managed by our friends at the Alford Memorial Radio Club. A list of Georgia Fusion repeaters can be found at https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/feature_search.php?type=YSF&state_id=13&band=%2 Bucky, WØSUN, runs the weekly "Digital Learning Net" every Wednesday at 9pm ET on SKYHUBLINK.COM, a group of 100 plus repeaters and Hotspots joined together worldwide running Allstar, Fusion, WiRES-X, DMR, D-Star, Echolink, IRLP and more. He is also one of the Fusion Engineers for SKYHUBLINK. Bucky is also a member of Colorado Digital Multiprotocol, "coloradodigital.net" (Colorado HD 31088) This group specializes in experimenting, building, and maintaining a bridged reflector system that makes it possible for Ham Radio Operators to communicate together on different systems no matter what mode of radio they are using. The WAG Award is open to radio amateurs who can provide proof of two-way radio amateur radio contact with all 159 counties in the state of Georgia. This award is nice complement to the annual Georgia QSO Party, which in fact would be a good time to work on some of those hard-to-get counties. The award is embodied in a nice certificate.

More details CLUB HISTORYThe Atlanta Radio Club (ARC) was founded in March 1911. It is believed to be the longest continually operating club in Georgia (Georgia Tech was founded earlier). With over 100 members, ARC activities include meetings, operating events, training sessions, membership outings, and community service activities in Metro-Atlanta.
The ARC helps operate the Atlanta Hamfestival and owns, operates or supports 11 repeaters around the metro area.
