As the title notes we are returning to the Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Brookhaven for our weekly Friday lunch meeting during August. Although the ‘official’ time listed in our Yahoo reflector calendar reminder lists the start time of 12:30 it’s OK to arrive at 12 noon to find good seating.
The location is Brookhaven Station Shopping Center, 4058 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30319.

See you there!
This is just a reminder that the GARS TechFest is this Satuday, January 14th, at the Gwinnett Medical Resource Center. The following is the announcement that was posted to several Yahoo groups including ours:
The Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society (GARS) will be hosting our annual TechFest in January. In recent years we have invited regional radio groups to participate by setting up a table with information about their activities and to demonstrate some type of amateur radio mode, method, technology or experience. This will be an opportunity for the community to become aware of the many modes of operation of Radio Amateurs and view some of the preparations taking place by public service volunteers in the Ham radio community. Unlike Field day, or the typical swap meet, this is not a contest or race. It is a chance to experience modes of our hobby that you might have never seen. Or to show your friends and family what Amateur Radio is about.
The following was posted to the Atlanta Radio Club Yahoo Group as well as various other outlets for area radio clubs. Please contact Elden Morris, N1MN, for more information; his contact information is at the end of this post.
I will be conducting an Amateur Radio Licensing class for the Technician License or introductory level license.
Attached is a flier for the class.
Class will be held October 22, 29 & November 5 from 8am until 4pm. You MUST attend all three days.
The class is free but there is a fee of $15 for the FCC exam.
Students must pre-register for the class.
For more information or to register for this class, please contact me.

This attachment also has some additional information.
We received the following announcement for the Student Shack at the Stone Mountain Hamfest. Additional details will be posted as they become available.
Plans Are Developing for the Student Shack at the Stone Mountain Hamfest.
Do you know young people who are interested in Amateur Radio? Please plan on bringing them to the Student Shack at the Stone Mountain Hamfest. Once again this year, the Student Shack has completely replaced the Youth Lounge of old. There will not be any coloring books or bead bracelet to be found. Instead, aimed at the growing number of students at schools with Amateur Radio programs, either during the school day or as an after school activity, the Student Shack will offer a series of educational opportunities for these budding hams.
The full schedule of activities is still being developed. We will share the full list here in about a week, so stay tuned!.
The Student Shack will run only on Saturday, November 5, during the Stone Mountain Hamfest. Bring your students, their friends, and any youth who have that spark of interest early to the Student Shack while you peruse the bone yard. You better hurry though because the students might find that bargain before you!
Update: Click here for the official Student Shack schedule.
The following information was sent by Dave Anderson, K4SV, the W4DXCC Leader:
Time is sure flying here. We are now 87 days away from the 2016 W4DXCC convention I can hardly believe it myself. I wanted to let you know that the website has been updated showing the program and presentations, take a look.
This year we have a great lineup of DX and Contest presentations including VK0EK Heard Island. Come hear from a team member who is presenting just what happened and get a chance to speak with them before and after their presentation.
The Bootcamp on Friday was a big hit last year and after reviewing the feedback we modified the program to provide an even better program for 2016. Be sure to spread the word for New and Experienced hams who would like to come see how it’s done. Everyone needs an Elmer, consider Ham Radio Bootcamp your Elmer.
The reservation Hot Line is now open. Give Rosie a call and get your Convention and Banquet tickets. Call her at 865 898-2279. The Banquet seats go fast so it might be a good time to get your tickets as the Banquet seating is limited.
Maybe it’s your first time visiting us or returning for another year, either way you wont want to miss the fun. We have a lobby full of great manufacturers who you can speak with one on one about their gear. Come twist the knobs and click the mice. It should be a wonderful time of fellowship, prizes and fun.
I hope to see everyone this year.
Dave Anderson, K4SV
