Thursday March 1st is the date for the next meeting of the Atlanta Radio Club. Our program will be “How FT8 puts WAS in reach for anyone” and the presenter is our very own Chandler W2NP, the ARC 2017 Ham of the Year.
The latest digital mode of FT-8 has taken the Ham Radio community by storm since its inception and Chandler has put that new mode to good use by gaining Worked All States (WAS) on 5 bands!
Chandler Friedman is the founder and owner of World Gone Silent, and the Emergency Coordinator for Atlanta ARES. His first experience with radio was with a handheld Radio Shack CB radio where, as a teen, he went by the age-appropriate handle “Nighthawk.” After graduating college, he began a career in TV news, starting in local newsrooms in Orlando and Phoenix before joining the national desk at CNN. He worked at CNN for nine years, and took a couple years away to build a desk in Ft. Myers. He left the corporate media world to devote his time to World Gone Silent, a company that helps people who’ve heard of ham radio a streamlined way to get licensed and get on the air.
The UHF Repeater is on the air! We’ve had a few technical problems in the last several months with the 70 cm repeater but our 444,825 Mhz (+) repeater is now in service. Remember we have a PL tone of 146.2 Hz on the 70 cm repeater same as our other 2 repeaters. See you there!
Our regular meet to eat restaurant CowTippers is closing on January 24th.
You can help us find another nearby place to eat and greet before we meet at the Red Cross HQ for our regular meeting.
How can you help? Head on over to the Atlanta Radio Club FaceBook page and vote. Jim N4BFR has a poll so you can vote for your favorite.
