Event: 2024 POTA` Fall Sprint
Date: Saturday, October 26, 2024
Time: 10:00 AM ET (1400Z)

Location: Abbott's Bridge Park
part of the Chattahoochie River National
          Recreation Area
          4569 Abbott's Bridge Rd
          Duluth, GA
Description:

Saturday, October 26th, 2024 will be the day of the 2024 POTA Fall Sprint.
Sprint in event terms usually indicates a short duration which is the case with this event.  Operating time is 10:00 to 14:00 (Eastern time) - four hours only. The Atlanta Radio Club is planning an outing for this sprint.
We are planning on arriving at Abbott's Bridge around 8am Saturday to begin setting up.  There is a gazebo there big enough for several stations.  We will be under cover with enough ground around for several antennas to deploy away from each other.
We will be providing soft drinks, water, some snacks.  There are picnic tables under the gazebo and near by open picnic tables. We might bring a few folding tables and folding chairs for folks wanting to spread out.  You might want to bring a folding chear just in case, seems we often run short of them.
If you want to bring your own radio and antenna feel free to bring it out, there will be RF filters for the five main bands: 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m.  We don't want to be transmitting on top of each other so the number of radios on the air at one time needs to be limited, but we can often get a radio or antenna on the air ad hoc style.
Anyone who wants to operate will get a chance to operate and draw some experienced POTA, SOTA operators.  If you want to just come and hang out - feel free to come and hang out.
Detailed directions:
This section of Abbott's Bridge in between Peachtree Industrial Blvd and Peachtree Parkway/Medlock Bridge Rd. There is a dirt road turning down beside the business at this
address ("Stone Place") leading into the park.  A smallish sign is visible when heading towards Peachtree Industrial Blvd, not
easily seen when heading away from PIB.
If you are coming from PIB and cross the river you missed the left turn. Coming from Peachtree Parkway the turn to the right
will be just after crossing the river and passing the businesses on the right.
It is about 1/2 mile down this road to the parking area where we will be set up.

Atlanta Radio Club Meeting Announcement
Join us on Thursday, October 3rd, at 7:30 PM for our next meeting at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dunwoody! We are excited to welcome Lee Johnson, N4WYE, who will be presenting on the NanoVNA—a small but very powerful Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), which is used for antenna tuning, and more. This is a workshop where Lee will be conducting a live demonstration on his Nano. Bring your Nano and follow along. Details below.
The meeting will be held in person at the church, as well as on Zoom for those who prefer to attend virtually.
Zoom Information:
https://zoom.us/j/4263755765?pwd=Vzdva1NaODZxUDByQmplcjN4WG5zUT09

We look forward to seeing you Thursday!
Rob Osattin, KI4UTYProgram Director | Atlanta Radio Club.
Here's the program description provided by Lee:
Note: Whenever Lee mentions bringing your NanoVNA to the meeting, you can still participate from home. Everything Lee demonstrates will be shown to our Zoom attendees as well.
NanoVNA Workshop
October ARC program by Lee Johnson N4WYE

The aim of this workshop, is to get you operational with your NanoVNA so that you canoptimize your existing antennas and make it easier to put up new ones with the confidence thatthey will perform as expected. As this workshop will be hands on showing the fundamental measurements that most of use, please bring your NanoVNA, along with the calibration loads and cables. Also bring your2m handheld whip as we will be using it for some of the steps.
If you do not have a NanoVNA, you can share with someone at the meeting. Better yet if youwant to buy your own, I would recommend the current and most popular NanoVNA H4 model which covers from 10kHz-1.5GHz. It is priced at $89.95 from a dealer such as R&L Electronics, that offers support. They have 140 in stock and quoted delivery in 3-4 days.https://www2.randl.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_8620&products_id=75145
The workshop, with a large overhead screen, will go step by step through:
o Controls and user interface
o Calibration
o Typical measurements
o Operational Demo
o Measure 2M whip antenna
o Set up your NanoVNA
o Discussion
This will help you understand how to get the most out of your antennas!

See you there.

We helped a ham whose license expired in the 1980s. He was a Technician then, which is equivalent to a General today. He took and passed the Technician test and will be reinstated with a General license. He was pretty happy.

WORKED ALL GEORGIA AWARD

The Atlanta Radio Club, with the support of the Georgia Section of the ARRL, is proud to support the "Worked All Georgia" Award. The WAG Award is open to radio amateurs who can provide proof of two-way radio amateur radio contact with all 159 counties in the state of Georgia. This award is nice complement to the annual Georgia QSO Party, which in fact would be a good time to work on some of those hard-to-get counties. The award is embodied in a nice certificate.

CLUB HISTORY

The Atlanta Radio Club (ARC) was founded in March 1911. It is believed to be the longest continually operating non-university club in Georgia (Georgia Tech was founded earlier). With over 100 members, ARC activities include meetings, operating events, training sessions, membership outings, and community service activities in Metro-Atlanta.

The ARC helps operate the Atlanta Hamfestival and owns, operates or supports 11 repeaters around the metro area.  In an average month, the club will hold a regular membership meeting, a tech/training session or operating outing, publish the Atlanta Ham newsletter, have 8 lunch outings and host over 20 nets via club repeaters.

SISTER Club - Geelong Amateur Radio Club - VK3ATL

Did you know the Atlanta Radio Club has a sister club?

In 2010, Dallas Jones (VK3DJ) from Drysdale, Victoria in Australia visited the United States to meet some friends he met on the air. "During his travels, he visited the Atlanta Radio Club and from all accounts had a great time with the guys."

BADGES

The official badge supplier of the ARC is The Signman of Baton Rouge.
